Bring in your contacts

Import a spreadsheet from another CRM, bring in your phone’s contacts, or snap a photo of a card or a note.

Em can only help with the people she knows about, so this is the best place to start. There are three ways in, and you can use all of them.

From a spreadsheet or another CRM

  1. Export your contacts from your old CRM as a .csv or Excel file.
  2. In Em, open People, then Import, and choose the file.
  3. Em matches your columns to her own fields. She'll flag anything she isn't sure about as Check this, so give those a look, then continue.
  4. Review what Em found: who's new, who's already in Em, and anything she couldn't read. Then import.

Couples and households come in together, with each person's email, phone, and birthday kept separately. Anything Em can't place, she saves as a note on the person, so nothing gets lost in the move.

Starting from scratch, or your old CRM's export is a mess? Download Em's template as an Excel file or a .csv file, fill it in, and import that.

Changed your mind? Undo removes the whole import for 7 days. Imports of up to 5,000 people at a time work best.

From your phone's contacts

Export your contacts as a .vcf file (most phones call it "Share contact" or "Export"), then open People, then Scan, and choose the file. A phone contacts file is always free, because it's already neat and tidy, so Em doesn't need her AI to read it.

From a photo: cards, sign-in sheets, even handwritten notes

Jotted a name and number on the back of a flyer? Snap a photo and Em reads the handwriting and adds them. The same goes for business cards and open house sign-in sheets. Open People, then Scan. Photos use a few credits, because Em is reading them for you. See Scan cards, sign-in sheets, and handwritten notes.

Importing doesn't flood your Today list: people you import aren't added to it all at once.
